SEGi College Penang offers exciting subjects on our Mechanical Engineering programmes. Among them is a technology called Finite Element Method (FEM) frequently used by mechanical engineering experts.
This is a useful teaching tool for demonstrating how temperature, strain, and stress are distributed throughout a component, although it can be misused by individuals who have not acquired the necessary instruction.
At its core, FEM is a numerical method for resolving challenging engineering issues. The three most frequent issues are fluid flow, heat transfer, and structural analysis. Technically speaking, the solution entails breaking down a structure into discrete elements that are connected at nodes, formulating equations that describe the behaviour of each element, applying loads and boundary conditions, putting together an overall stiffness matrix, and solving the collection of simultaneous equations that results.
