Bridging Industry and Education in Hospitality Management

SEGi College Kota Damansara’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SoHTM) recently visited the Royale Chulan Damansara Hotel in Petaling Jaya. The excursion aimed to bridge the gap between industry practices and classroom learning, specifically focusing on the Housekeeping Management course within the Diploma in Hotel Management programme.
During the visit, students delved into the intricacies of the housekeeping department, gaining valuable insights into operational procedures, equipment usage, and cleaning supplies management. Led by Assistant Executive Housekeeper Syahidil, participants were exposed to the meticulous routines of tidying guest rooms, maintaining hygiene standards in public areas, and essential employee management practices.
Statistics reveal that the housekeeping sector extends beyond hotels, permeating various industries such as hospitals, educational institutions, shopping complexes, and offices. This hands-on experience equipped students with vital skills in job functions, cleaning equipment proficiency, and operational task handling. The visit not only fostered industry networking but also emphasised the significance of housekeeping as a profession demanding expertise and precision.
By integrating real-world exposure into academic curricula, SEGi reinforces its commitment to producing skilled graduates aligned with industry demands. This strategic initiative aligns with the national goal of nurturing competent professionals in the hospitality sector, ensuring a seamless transition from classroom learning to practical application.
