New Eye Centre in SEGi University Kota Damansara

SEGi University has launched an eye centre at its campus in Kota Damansara aimed at providing eye examination to those who are unable to have access to eye care services due to financial constraints.

The university has partnered with Rotary for this initiative and launched the centre known as the Rotary-SEGi Eye Centre, to provide charitable eye care services to the low-income segment of society by way of screening, detecting, correcting and referring cases for further medical interventions.

The eye centre offers free optometric eye examination to individuals detected from the vision screening exercises organized by Rotary and SEGi University.

The full optometric eye examination consists of the examination of the eye and vision in a clinical facility for the purpose of detection and provision of optical correction and vision therapy for functional disorders. Besides that, referral of conditions that requires medical attention to medical practitioners, is also part of the care.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam officially launched the Rotary-SEGi Eye Centre today at SEGi University Kota Damansara.
In conjunction with the launching of the new eye care centre, Rotary and SEGi University will also introduce “Basic Vision Testing in Children” training course aimed at equipping teachers with the basic knowledge and methods to identify and recognize basic vision deficiencies in children, which may result in learning difficulties.

Children suspected with vision problems will be identified and recommended for further examination by an optometrist. The training certified by the Association of Malaysian Optometrists, is organized by Rotary while the Faculty of Optometry and Vision Sciences at SEGi University will deliver the course modules.

The new eye centre is part of SEGi University Social Responsibility to give back to the society. SEGi University is recognized as “The first Malaysian University that earned 5 Stars for prioritizing society’s needs in Malaysia” by QS Stars in 2016, an international evaluation system for universities based on auditing.

The Faculty of Optometry & Vision Sciences at SEGi University offers the Bachelor of Optometry (Hons) that is fully accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) signifying compliance with standards laid down by the Malaysian Optical Council (MOC).
