July 9, 2008 - Experience a caged basketball stugfest in this intense five-on-five streetball showdown at the SEGi STREET 5IVE, Malaysia’s first commercial Street Five Tournament.

‘Being proactive educators, we want to advocate and instigate a healthy, well-rounded lifestyle amongst today’s youth. Besides striving for academic excellence, we believe that a true champion lives in everyone who is willing to accept the challenge – whether it is inside or outside the basketball court’, said Mr. Bruce Lim, Senior Marketing Director, SEGi University College, at the SEGi STREET 5IVE launch. ‘We hope that SEGi STREET 5IVE will inject a fresh new breadth to the enjoyment of basketball. It is a very dynamic and vibrant game and we can certainly see the potential of growing it into a SEGi signature yearly event’.

The sponsorship of SEGi STREET 5IVE is part of SEGi's corporate social responsibility as an education provider. It's our aim to inculcate an interest in sports among youths. To grow and be successful, one need to excel both in studies or training, as well as being active in sports and extra-curricular activities. That's what having a complete experience is all about’, he added. ‘This year will also see the support of SEGi's partner, Upper Iowa University (UIU) which boasts of a strong collegiate team in the United States.  Basketball combines and brings out all the elements and values of teamwork, precision, hard work and passion, which are essential for youths to succeed in life.’

Not a newcomer to hosting basketball events, SEGi University College was also the proud host of the 2007 High School Basketball League (HSBL). The league managed to attract participation from 40 secondary school teams with not less than 480 contestants, reaching out to over 5,000 local youths – a sporting spectacle in its own right.

This time around, SEGi University College is proud to bring local youth a new revolutionary brand of basketball – the SEGi STREET 5IVE. Adapted from the popular game of Streetball 3-on-3, the SEGi STREET 5IVE is a game that will definitely put its players’ skills, agility and endurance to the test.

The opening day of the tournament will be held on Saturday July 19 at SEGi University College in Kota Damansara in conjunction with the SEGi Charity Carnival where teams can participate for free in the five (5) a side games.

Following the opening of the SEGi STREET 5IVE on 19th July at the SEGi Charity Carnival, the tournament will be held at Berjaya Times Square (Official Venue Sponsor of SEGi STREET 5IVE) on July 27, 2008 where an estimated 250 teams will battle the court for the championship title.

Matches will be carried out in three (3) categories for the SEGi STREET 5IVE tournament on July 19 – under 21, under 18 and under 15 – and four (4) categories for the SEGi STREET 5IVE tournament on July 27 – under 21, under 18, under 15 and the open category.
