Interactive Colgate Oral Wellness Programme for dental students

DENTAL students from the Faculty of Dentistry (FOD) had participated in an interactive session, The Colgate Oral Wellness Programme 2018 aimed at updating the students on dental caries detection and tooth hypersensitivity.

The annual event was organised Colgate Palmolive Malaysia Sdn Bhd in collaboration with FOD, especially for the Clinical Phase dental students.

During the session, Colgate Palmolive Malaysia Sdn Bhd distributed free Oral Wellness kits that consist of patient education materials and models to aid the students in oral health promotion.

A total of 51 kits were given to Year 3 students, as it was a part of Colgate’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and the faculty extended its appreciation to the sponsor.

Among those who were present at the event were Deputy Director for Oral Health Technology of Oral Health Division from the Ministry of Health Malaysia, Dr Salleh Zakaria and Associate Dean, School of Dentistry, International Medical University, Prof Dr Seow Liang Lin.

Dr Salleh discussed about the ‘Challenges of Implementing ICDAS from the Perspective of Public Health and Epidemiology’ in line with the session’s objective while Prof Dr Seow spoke about ‘Prevention & Management of Caries and Dentin Hypersensitivity’.

Scientific, Academic and Public Health Affairs Manager from Colgate Palmolive (M) Sdn Bhd, Wong Yian Yan introduced students to the tools and materials in the Colgate Oral Wellness Kit that would come in handy for oral health promotion and clinical applications.

The participating Year 3 students were shown the techniques and procedures on fluoride applications and use of desensitizing toothpaste to address tooth sensitivity.

FOD Dean Datuk Dr Khairiyah Abd Muttalib, Deputy Deans, lecturers and Years 3, 4 and 5 students also attended the session.
