The Faculty of Dentistry (FOD) at SEGi University is pleased with the participation of its dean, Datuk Dr Khairiyah Abd Muttalib as well as Associate Professor Dr Srinivas S Ramachandra at the recent Global Dental Ambassadors (GDA) programme in Cambodia.
The four days event from Nov 12 until 16 was held at the Faculty of Dentistry at University of Puthisastra in Phnom Penh.
Dr Khairiyah who participated in the event delivered a talk on “The Challenges of Implementing International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS)”. She spoke on her own experience on the teaching and implementation in ICDAS at the FOD in SEGi as well as her past experiences with the Ministry of Health, Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Dr Srivinas shared his insights on the “Basic Periodontal Surgeries” and “Overview of Dental Implants”. During the event, participating lecturers also conducted small group teachings (case-based learning) and clinical supervision.
Dr Khairiyah had also expressed interest to increase participation of SEGi’s FOD lecturers for similar programmes within the Southeast Asia region in near future.
Other participants in the GDA programme were Dr Silvia Lobo Lobo, Dr Margaret Maclin, Dr David Okuji, Dr Rebecca Schaffer, and Dr Bruce White from the United States of America, and Prof Dr. Giuseppe Ficarra from Italy.
The GDA group is a grass-roots and volunteer-led and driven group of dental professionals who share the mission to participate in academic and cultural exchanges among oral health professionals and institutions around the globe.
The New York Lutheran group, Langone Hospitals, Division of Dental Medicine, organizes these continuing dental education programmes under the leadership of Dr David Okuji.
