Dentistry students make SEGi proud with achievements at MDA SCATE 2018

Year 5 FOD, SEGi University students and staff members (Dr Indumathi, Dr Chaitanya and Dr Priyadarshini) at the 25th MDA SCATE 2018.

THE Faculty of Dentistry (FOD) at SEGi University is proud of its students’ latest achievements at the 25th Malaysian Dental Association (MDA) Scientific Convention and Trade Exhibition (SCATE) 2018.

Two teams of Year 5 students represented the faculty with two oral presentations of their research projects. Each presentation lasted 12 minutes with an additional three minutes for a question and answer session.

Year 5 student Ivan Sum Chern Yang who represented his team and delivered a presentation on ‘Prevalence and Patterns of Tobacco Use among Health Science Undergraduate Students – A Cross Sectional Study’ bagged first (1st) place for Oral Presentation and walked away with RM1,000 cash prize.

Sum along with his team members Chew Jea Yue, Lim Ji Qi and Chang Wan Chan were supervised by Dr Priyadarshini HR.

Another team presentation by Hong Jieru on ‘Assessment of Nasolabial Angle among Malaysians with Skeletal Class II and Class III Relationship - A Pilot Study’ won second (2nd) place and walked away with RM800 cash prize.

The presenters were also awarded certificates for oral presentation. Final year dentistry students will compete in MDA SCATE annually against dental practitioners and postgraduate students.

FOD is pleased with the quality of the research projects. The faculty would also like to extend the appreciation to research supervisors, Dr Priyadarshini and Dr Chaitanya.
