SEGi Dental Society (SDS) from SEGi University is pleased to have hosted one of the largest events, The Dental Undergraduates Survival Kit 2.0 (DUSK 2.0) On Dec 2 and 3 recently.
Organised by the Malaysian Dental Students’ Association (MDSA), the event was aimed at instilling the fundamental knowledge on the practice of dentistry, especially on handling medical and dental emergencies in clinical practice, and to enlighten dental students on various dental specialisations.
A total of 220 participants attended the event, consisting of current students and new graduates.
DUSK 2.0 was graced by Prof Dr Azrin Esmady Ariffin (Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Division at SEGi University) who also officiated the Conference, Dr Nomah Taharim (Director of Oral Health Care Division, MOH Malaysia), Prof Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abu Hassan (Dean FOD UiTM and MDSA advisor), Dr Mohamad Muzafar Hamitudin (MDSA Honorary Advisor), Prof Dato Dr Zainal Ariff (Dean of FOD UM), Prof Dr Rosnah Zain, (Dean FOD MAHSA University), Dr Ramesh Kumaresan (Dean of FOD AIMST University) and Datuk Dr Khairiyah Abd Muttalib (Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, SEGI University). Also present was Dr Sofiah Mat Ripen (Secretary of MDC).
Attendees were divided into 12 groups. On the first day of the conference, 12 dental specialists from the public and private sectors led various interactive sessions discussing about medical and dental emergencies.
The sessions were held in the Faculty of Dentistry at SEGi University with the support from its lecturers and staff.
Eight (8) dental supplier companies and laboratories exhibited their products and participants had a chance to visit the booths, especially on the second day.
During the closing ceremony, the organisers presented a token of appreciation to the dental suppliers for their support of DUSK 2.0.
The conference was a success thanks to the teamwork and leadership under Eunice Looi Shyn Yin of IMU as the President of MDSA, the main organizing committee under the Chairmanship of dental student Ng Ee Cheng from PIDC, as well as SDS President, Melissa Wong.
More than 20 students from the MDSA and SDS were involved in the event, together with the support and assistance from numerous sub-committees and volunteers from local dental faculties, including students from the FOD, SEGi University.
The MDSA garnered strong sponsorship from many dental vendors and the list is available in the publication ‘Sponsorship booklet 2017/2018’.
