ENGLISH STUDY SKILLS - ESS

SEGi’s English Study skills programme is designed for students who wish to gain the language skill to study in an English speaking University or College.  This programme also benefits adults who wish to write and converse effectively in the workplace.

The programme starts at a basic level 1 to an advance level 5.  The level a students starts is determined through a “Placement Test” done before class commences.

Students who have completed all the levels will possess the skill and knowledge to:

  • Confidently speak in an English speaking University/College working both independently and with others;
  • Undertake independent research;
  • Write academic reports and essays;
  • Converse fluently in academic or workplace situation;
  • Evaluate academic materials;
  • Pass examinations
Students will have ample opportunities to practice reading, writing, listening and speaking through role–play activities and small group discussions in addition to laboratory session.

IELTS AND TOEFL

The English Study Skill programme helps the students achieve the level of English proficiency useful for their preparation towards a high score in the IELTS or TOEFL Test.

IELTS

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an internationally recognised English Language assessment.  It is recognised widely as a language requirement for entry to course and programme in further and higher education overseas.

A minimum bandscore of 6 in an IELTS examination is commonly accepted as a criteria for entry into a foreign university.

TOEFL

The purpose of TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is to evaluate the English proficiency of people whose native language is not English.  The scores are requirement for purposes of admission into foreign universities.

The TOEFL test has four sections – Listening, Structure, Reading and Writing – and a minimum score of 550+ is commonly accepted as a criteria for entry into a foreign university.
